Somehow- Dave Weissman (David Law)

To be honest, I really do not remember how I found this song. I am pro at surfing the internet and randomly stumbling upon really good songs that a lot of people haven't heard of. I think I may have come upon this song while reading a blog or searching YouTube.

I've had this song for a couple of years now and thought I would google the artist. So it seems he has maybe changed his name from Dave Weissman to David Law which is interesting. I guess David Law does sound better for a stage name but find it kind of strange that he has changed it. He has been playing on Nantucket Island for some time now and all throughout Cape Cod.

I really love listening to songs that I feel like I can tell this person is really singing from their heart. This song is purely piano and his voice reminds me a lot of a Josh Kelley and Michael Buble combination. It's a great mix of blues and pop/rock. In my opinion, this is a great song to study to and just listen to when you want to chill. It's one of those songs that you forget about and then it comes on iTunes shuffle and you are like "hells yea, such a good song" and instantly puts you in a good mood.

Dave (David) has a great voice and true passion for music. If you like this song, I recommend you look at his website (www.pianodaveusa.com) and look at his other songs. There are also free downloads on his site. I couldn't even find him on youtube for this song, so it shows you he really isn't known at all. Therefore, spread the word about David Law!

Oh Santa- Mariah Carey

Merry Christmas! I thought since I started this blog on Xmas, I should start with a Christmas song (since I'll have to wait another year for it to be socially acceptable to listen again).

I was looking through my iTunes of Xmas songs. I thought it wouldn't be appropriate to start with a song that everyone knew because everybody already has their own opinions on those songs. Plus you can't criticize a classic.

While I was supposed to be studying for finals this semester, I watched the Christmas at Rockefeller Center special on TV.  I heard Mariah Carey was going to be singing and assumed that it would just be "All I Want For Christmas" which is a very good song if I do say so myself. Instead, I got to enjoy listening to Mariah rock out to her new song on her album Merry Christmas II You (get it? MC for Mariah Carey and the II for her second Christmas album. I thought it was pretty clever), "Oh Santa" with children dancing and singing in the background. I instantly loved the song. I thought it was so upbeat and was just great to sing along to... My friends had different opinions. "This is awful." "This will never be a christmas classic!" "She can never top her first Christmas album." "Turn this off!"

I wasn't surprised to hear these responses. I tend to like music that other people don't (hey, I'm obsessed with country and I'm not from the south!). I instantly downloaded "Oh Santa" and listened to it by myself (since no one else wanted to). I listened on repeat for a few days, memorizing the lyrics, and singing along. I just thought it was great, showing it to new people, but not getting much interest. Needless to say, I can't really stand the song anymore. You may think, well obviously you don't like it, you listened to it on repeat for multiple days. I really don't think that's it. It is a very upbeat song, but it doesn't represent the vocal chops we know and love from Mariah. It has no comparison to "All I Want For Christmas Is You" or her version (which I love) of "O Holy Night".

All in all, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I can't really decide at this point my true opinion of this song. I hate and I love it. It's great when you just want to sing along to something gospelly, but isn't the type of Christmas song you would sing to get yourself in the Christmas spirit. I think she would've had more success had she come out with this song with lyrics having nothing to do with Christmas, but that's just my opinion.

Welcome to my new blog!

This is my second attempt at a blog but I feel like this one has a much better chance at succeeding. My first blog had no direction, it was basically me writing about things I thought about on a constant basis. It became a bunch of ramble jamble and I decided to delete it. I've been looking around at other blogs for quite some time and was thinking about my love of music. I love many different genres (favorites being country, rock, and some pop) and thought it would be fun to write about my "new" favorite song. Doesn't everyone become attached to a song for a few days right after you discover it? It may not actually be a new song but may be new in your library of tunes. I really love listening to not only popular, mainstream songs that everyone knows, but songs by lesser known artists.

So, you all will have to work with me while I develop this blog and give it as much direction as I can. I will try to provide YouTube links to each song I discuss so you will have instant listening. Thanks for reading! Feel free to let me know of any song suggestions or songs that you have discovered and can't stop listening to!
