Sorry!

Hey guys. Sorry it has taken me like a year to post and sorry this isn't a legit post. I am like dying with work and stuff and wanted to take a break to write to you that I have some really good songs coming up to write about. I have been making a playlist of "happy songs," songs that just make me happy when I am in whatever mood. They are really really good, and most likely you haven't heard of at least one of them. Yay!

Thanks for reading!

All Those Nights- Chase Coy

I first off want to apologize for not blogging for awhile. I have been crazy busy with school, homework, and trying to somewhat have a social life which isn't working out as much as I wanted. I can also see how many blog views I have and it isn't that much so for the few of you who do read this, tell people! And I will try to also get some more constant readers. Thanks for reading!

So this song is courtesy of the same fantastic person that showed me South Jordan. We were talking about how songs can definitely represent a certain time in someone's life. I still think of bar/bat mitzvahs when I hear "Hey Ya" and "Get Low." She showed me this song "All Those Nights" and told me that it represented her Senior year of high school. I started to listen to it and fell in love with Chase Coy's voice along with the lyrics that also represented those last days of high school that I enjoyed sooo much. Obviously the song has to do with going away from home in a year, but the worries that Chase talks about really coincided with my life and the lives of many high school seniors. While listening to the song, I realized that it could have to do with many instances of people leaving including heading off to war.

I decided I would look up more about Chase Coy to find out about his life and possibly his meaning behind this song. He is 19 years old and lives in Indiana (younger than me!). He seems to really not be known by anyone and therefore just doing some shows here and there. I can't really find any proof about what he was directly intended to sing about in this song so if any of you know or can find out, I would love to hear it!

Since Chase isn't known too much around the US, tell your friends about him! He has a great voice and think he should be rewarded for it!

"As long as it makes them feel something, that’s the whole point of making music to me."- Chase Coy

Shout out to all my friends from high school! Love you and will never forget those "conversations about nothing til midnight!" and love the ones we still have!

Rating: 9/10 (I'm finding this rating system to be kind of stupid because I'm only picking songs I like. Therefore, I might stop it.)

Island Time- Justin James

So... as many people know I am queen of watching junk tv especially junk reality tv. I have been watching those reality shows on MTV including Real World, Laguna Beach, and the lesser known shows such as Maui Fever. For those of you who care, this show was basically a Laguna Beach, it followed the lives of young adults who lived in Maui and did nothing with their lives besides surf and party. Anyway, MTV is really good and picking songs for their shows and they are usually so catchy to the point where I can pin point where a song was played in each episode of Laguna Beach (there is also the fact that I watch each episode multiple times). So I was watching Maui Fever the other day during break because I had nothing to do and I missed the show to be honest. I heard this really good, chill, surf type song being played and I instantly had to Shazam (iPhone app that listens to a song and then tells you what it's called, what album it's on, and who the artist is).

The song is called "Island Time" by Justin James. I had never heard of this artist before but I really knew that I liked this song. Most of his songs sound pretty similar after previewing them on iTunes. They are the perfect song to just listen to while tanning on the beach with a margarita watching hot men surf (just kidding. I don't ever do that!). Not only for this amazing beach experience, but these songs are great for studying (if you are the type of person like me that likes to listen to chill songs that make you happy while you are miserably studying away in your mini dorm room).

After doing a quick Google search, I found more out about Justin James. He didn't really start pursuing his singing career until he was in recovery from a Shark bite! His grandma sent him an acoustic guitar and he began to play. Now he stays in California or Hawaii and keeps writing new songs. I love stories like this (not people struggling to live from a shark bite but of people who realize what's important in life and start following their passion).

I love this song and can not stop listening to it! You should also check out more of his music. If you go to his music page, there is a free download of his song "Perfect Sometimes". Thanks for reading!

Fatal Flaw- South Jordan

I am so excited to write about this band! All of their music is awesome and I didn't really pick "Fatal Flaw" because it is so much better than any other song, I just really like it and probably know it the best along with the song "Lay Down." South Jordan's music is really soothing and just amazing. I really can't talk specifically about the songs, you just need to listen to them.

South Jordan originated on the Indiana University campus (they lived on the street South Jordan). They actually met on coincidence, Michael David Hall won a song writing competition which attracted the attention of other musicians who needed a lead vocalist to start their group. Hall is actually from a town near where I'm from (Chi town represent).

How did I hear about this small band you may ask?
Well, last year my good friend from school just kind of showed me them when we were talking about what music we liked that not many people knew. I was a little skeptical at first because her tastes in music, let's just say, don't always mesh with mine. I couldn't stop listening to this band. I really wanted them to become famous because at this point they only had an EP out. One day I was doing my usual Facebook browsing and I saw a few people from school "like" South Jordan on Facebook (or maybe it was "fan" them at that point). Anyway, I was thinking wow that's strange, I wonder how they all heard of them. Well, as a matter of fact, South Jordan came to Michigan for Dance Marathon and performed and I had no idea! I know, so sad right that I didn't get to see them?

Since last year, South Jordan is rising into fame. They have recorded new songs and have been playing at many more venues. I really recommend that you check them out on Facebook or their page on Myspace.

I recommend listening to Fatal Flaw, Lay Down, Take Your Time, and their new song All of Us (but seriously listen to it all if you have time!)

My Rating (of the band): 9/10

Today is the Day- Lincoln Brewster

I've finally gotten into the flow of school work and therefore I have decided to post another song? Yes. Anyway I decided it was time to get around to some of my Christian rock music that I love. This song is a classic in my eyes since I have known it since I've started really listening to Christian rock music. This song is a more current, sophisticated version of the Sunday school song I sang every Sunday as a child, "This is the day". I think it is really cool how this artist brought that song that so many people know into a more popular version that I could listen to any day and not get annoyed with it.

More on the artist: Lincoln Brewster was born in Alaska and grew up with a troubled childhood involving violence from his stepfather. His mom and him found escape through music and God. Since then he has worked at his church along with become a rock star. I personally think he is just awesome! (and he's cute!)

Anyway, I really really love this song but then again music is one of the few ways I feel like I can connect with God. You might not be a Christian or might not have the same beliefs that I do, therefore, you might not like this song or might not feel the same way about it that I do.

I am always looking for new Christian rock songs to listen to, so if you happen to listen to it and know of some good songs then please send them my way!

Morning Glory- Katie Gavin

This post is dedicated to a dear, old friend of mine, Jurbanable. We have been listening to the music of a girl from our high school (Katie Gavin) for a few weeks now and she is absolutely incredible. Jurbanable told me that I have to put her on my blog so that once she is famous I could say that I knew her before everyone else (whatever). But anyway, she has actually been receiving a lot of media attention for her rendition of Whip My Hair by Willow Smith. It is really good but I decided to feature her song Morning Glory in this post just to show a song that she wrote herself.

I showed one of my friends this song today and she asked, "Who is this? Ingrid Michaelson?" I think that can kind of tell you right away that this girl is pretty legit. She has a very unique voice that is really catchy and sounds awesome. You should really check out all of her videos on www.youtube.com/katiegavs but I do have to say some are better than others. I think once she has help writing and has a band formed to play the backups, her music will sound really good (also with a legit recording studio). Anyway, I'm pretty much obsessed with this song right now and think that everyone should check her out. She was on WGN news recently and said that she has been getting offers from record labels but wants to go to college first. I say, "Hell go be famous and a singer! You can always go back to college!"

My rating: 9/10

Morning Glory (the song starts at 4:05)
This is an acoustic version that I like the best.

There's A World Out There- Paul Brandt

WOAH sorry it has been forever since I've written a post. I felt like I was constantly doing things over break and didn't have time to write. Then classes started up again and I just haven't had time to share amazing songs with you. Here's my new discovery...

So thanks to a fellow dorm mate of mine, I have started using Twitter. I really only use it to follow famous people and see what they are up to. Anyway as some people may know, I am obsessed with junk reality tv and therefore I follow Khloe Kardashian (and the rest of the Kardashian family... don't make fun of me). Last night she was putting up quotes that people had sent her and I came across this one "don't tell me the sky is the limit because there are footprints on the moon". It really just struck me and I fell in love. I googled it to figure out where it came from/who said it. I found out it is from a song "There's a world out there" by Paul Brandt. I had never heard of this artist and therefore didn't have any idea what genre of music he sang. I read the lyrics through and instantly fell in love with the song. I thought no matter what it sounds like, these lyrics are so powerful and amazing... Then I heard the song.

As many of you know, I am obsessed with country. This song is country and I really just don't like it. I feel this song has such great lyrics and they need to be sung in a more direct rock sound opposed to this happy go lucky country tune. He is telling people to not take the safe route in life but go out there and do something crazy. To me, the way he is singing it, isn't as persuading as I think it really could be.

What's your opinion?

(I can't find a link to the full song anywhere. If you can, let me know. There is a 1:30 preview on iTunes)

My rating: 3/10 (lyrics 9.5/10)
